Setting Up Goolge Apps Mail or Gmail MX Records

Email can be setup with Google in two ways: 1) As a client in Gmail 2) As it’s own mail server using Google Apps: http://www.google.com/intx/en/enterprise/apps/business/

If Gmail is being used as the mail client you will need to go into Gmail and use settings to add email and enter IMAP (or POP) settings.

If Google Apps is being used as the mail server, then you will need to add new email and set Google MX records in Cpanel. Make sure you delete any current records, then create these 5:

Priority Mail Server

1 ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM

5 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM

5 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM

10 ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.COM

10 ASPMX3.GOOGLEMAIL.COM

How To Check if it is Gmail or Google Apps

1. Login (or ask client to login) to account.

2. Go to Google.com

3. If it says Gmail at the top then it is being used as a client.

4. If it says Mail then they are using Google Apps and need to have the MX records set in Cpanel.
